Physiotherapy

Radial and focused shockwave therapy

A non-invasive technique that uses high-energy acoustic waves to treat a range of musculoskeletal conditions. Its therapeutic effect is based on mechanotransduction, a biological process through which a mechanical stimulus applied to the tissues is converted into biochemical signals that trigger cellular responses. These responses promote neovascularisation, stimulate cellular metabolic activity, encourage collagen synthesis and reorganisation, improve tissue regeneration and help modulate pain.

About this technique

Shockwave therapy is used to address certain muscle, tendon and other musculoskeletal conditions, particularly persistent or chronic ones.

There are two modes: radial waves, which spread the energy over a wider, more superficial area, and focused waves, which concentrate it more precisely on deep structures. The choice depends on the location of the injury, the characteristics of the tissue and the therapeutic goals, always after an individual assessment.
